The 5 biggest myths about coffee
Coffee is one of the Swiss people's favourite drinks. You can make the perfect coffee or a coffee mix drink at home with a fully automatic coffee machine. However, there are also numerous myths and rumours surrounding coffee. Many coffee opponents use these myths as arguments. Below we explain five myths about coffee and what exactly you should look out for in a fully automatic coffee machine. A fully automatic coffee machine can be a worthwhile investment for the home or office.
Can coffee be addictive?
This myth is false. According to the WHO, caffeine is not addictive. Caffeine makes us more efficient and alert. However, it does not cause a dopamine release in the body. However, if you drink a lot of coffee, the body can get used to the caffeine from coffee. If you don't drink any coffee for a day, you may experience minor withdrawal symptoms. You may experience fluctuations in blood pressure, fatigue, tiredness or headaches. However, the withdrawal symptoms only last for a few days. The amount of coffee you consume is decisive for the withdrawal symptoms. If you drink coffee in large quantities, it is not harmful to your body. With a Jura coffee machine, you can prepare and enjoy a fresh coffee or a fresh coffee mix drink.
Is coffee harmful to the human body?
Coffee in mass quantities is not harmful to the human body. Just like other drinks, such as a glass of wine, coffee can also have beneficial properties for the body. You should not consume more than four cups of coffee a day. You can drink this amount without hesitation. Coffee has various positive effects on the human body, e.g. increased thinking skills and concentration, can reduce headaches, is good for the liver and protects against liver fibrosis, reduces the risk of Parkinson's disease and reduces the risk of various types of cancer. A few cups of coffee cannot harm the body, quite the opposite!
Is coffee hard to digest?
Coffee from a filter machine or a fully automatic coffee machine is relatively easy to digest and not harmful to your stomach. The only thing you should pay attention to is how the beans are roasted. Beans that are industrially roasted are more difficult to digest as very high temperatures are used. This produces various bitter substances and acids that do not disappear due to the high temperatures and short roasting time. In addition, the coffee beans are often still raw on the inside during industrial roasting. Coffee beans should be roasted gently and for longer. Even roasting allows the flavours to develop optimally. You will notice this later in the flavour when brewing a coffee or coffee mix drink. It is better to buy high-quality coffee beans and go for quality. Long and evenly roasted beans are also much easier to digest. This coffee contains far fewer tannic and chlorogenic acids, which could lead to stomach problems. The coffee is much more aromatic and digestible. For the coffee machine, you should therefore opt for coffee beans from long roasting.
Is the caffeine content in espresso higher than in normal coffee?
The caffeine content is determined by the quantity. Other factors include the selected coffee blend, the ratio of water to coffee, the brewing time, the type of coffee, the degree of grinding, the quality of the coffee beans and how the coffee is prepared. A normal filter coffee has an average caffeine content of 50 to 60 mg per 100 ml of liquid. An espresso contains 100 to 110 mg of caffeine for the same amount of liquid. This means that the caffeine content in an espresso is twice as high. However, a normal espresso is always served in a smaller quantity, often 25 ml. If you drink a normal filter coffee, the cup often contains 150 ml of coffee. The caffeine content is therefore approx. 80 mg caffeine. Most espressos from a coffee machine have only 33 mg of caffeine. In this ratio, the caffeine content in a normal coffee is higher.
Does coffee dehydrate the body?
Coffee does not dehydrate the body! So you can enjoy your coffee in peace. Coffee even counts towards your fluid balance. Of course, this does not mean that you drink more coffee. Coffee stimulates our bladder and we need to go to the toilet more often. It therefore makes sense to have a glass of water in between to make up for the lost fluids. Professional cafés therefore often serve a small glass of water with a coffee or mixed coffee drink. However, fluid is not removed from the body.
